Ingredients :
For Paste :
Onions (Chopped) - 1 Onion
Green Chillies - 2
Peppercorns - 6
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tbs
Cloves (Lavanga) - 4
Cilantro leaves - 5 sprigs
Ginger - 1/2 inch
Garlic cloves (Chopped) - 1 clove
Preparation :
Roast all the above ingredients with 1 tbs oil on medium flame.Roast till they turn golden brown in color.
Cool it,add salt to taste and grind it into a fine paste.Add water if needed to grind and set aside.
On the other side boil 1/4 cup of Chana dal for 4 whistles.When cooked drain the water and smash the dal.
Now take a pan,add 2 tbs oil,1/2 tbs cumin seeds,a pinch Asafoetida,1/2 tbs turmeric powder,and 2 tbs of tamarind paste and add 1 cup water and mix it.Now cook it till it boils..
When it starts boiling add the grinded paste, cooked chana dal water,small tennis ball size jaggery and smashed chana dal.Mix well and add salt to taste and water as needed to get a consistency of Rasam and let it boil well for 15 minutes.
