Gunta Ponganalu / Paddu Recipe

Ingredients :

Rice  - 3 cups
Urad Dal - 1 cup
Fenugreek seeds (Methi seeds) - 1/4 tbs
Soaked Chana Dal (soaked overnight) - 1/2 cup
Onions (Finely Chopped) - 1/2 Onion
Green Chillies (Finely Chopped) -  2 Chillies
Cilantro leaves (Chopped) - To Garnish
Salt - To Taste
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tbs

Preparation :

Soak Rice,Urad dal,fenugreek seeds for 8 hours and grind it into a smooth batter.Then ferment it overnight.You can also use the left over Dosa Batter.
Now take a vessel,add 2 tbs oil,chopped chillies,onions and fry till onions turn golden brown,then add the soaked chana dal,turmeric powder,cilantro leaves,salt and fry for 10 minutes.

Now add this prepared mix to the batter and mix well..


 Next heat the ponganalu skillet on medium flame and add few drops of oil to each impression.


Now pour a spoon full of batter to each impression and once all the impressions are filled,cover the skillet with a lid on top and cook for 5 minutes.

After sometime open the lid and see if the batter has cooked.


Now turn them on the other side with a spoon or knife and roast them for another 5 minutes.Make sure that they are cooked till they turn light golden brown in color.Don't roast them on very high or very low flame.

Gunta ponganalu / Paddu are ready to serve with Coconut Chutney.
